Police are investigating a sneak-in burglary in which £55 was stolen from the home of an 84-year-old Gobowen woman.

Gobowen pensioner has cash stolen from home

A youth, thought to be aged 15 or 16, spoke to the woman who had been gardening at her home in St Martins Road yesterday afternoon.

He said he was a student from Oswestry college and wanted to do some gardening to earn money.

The woman explained she did not need any gardening doing, and although the youth was insistent, he eventually left.

Later in the day, she noticed that £55 of her pension money was missing from the living room. It's thought the youth sneaked into the house unnoticed.

Police have carried out house to house inquiries nearby and are appealing for information. "We would like to hear from anyone who received a similar caller in the area yesterday afternoon, or indeed, may have spotted the youth hanging around looking suspicious."

The youth is described as white, slim with dark curly hair and was wearing dark jeans and a long-sleeved grey top with a dark grey stripe down the centre.

The number to call at Oswestry police station is 0300 333 3000. Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
