Police arrest drug suspect in Shrewsbury

Officers attended an address in Longden Coleham on Friday where they arrested a 25-year-old man from the West Midlands area.

He was taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station for questioning on suspicion of possessing heroin, a Class A controlled drug, with intent to supply. Police who searched the premises also seized £1,000 cash and items of suspected drug paraphernalia.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: "The warrant was carried out under the Misuse of Drugs Act and a suspect arrested. He was subsequently given police bail while our inquiries continue.

"This is the latest in a series of warrants in Shrewsbury and other parts of Shropshire. We are constantly receiving information about illegal drug activity from our own sources and from members of the public.

"We rely heavily on information from people who suspect drug dealing is taking place in their neighbourhood. We urge people to contact us direct using the non-emergency police number 101, or by calling the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111."
