Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service support National Chip Week
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is supporting National chip week which runs from today until Sunday by urging people to take more care when cooking chips - or stop off at a local chip shop after a busy week or a night out.

Most fires at home are started in the kitchen and a chip pan fire can kill or cause serious injuries, said Tamara Hackett, a Community Fire Safety Officer with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.
“Leaving a chip pan unattended can have disastrous results as the oil can easily overheat and ignite. Half of all the fires that we attend in homes across Shropshire start in the kitchen,” she said.
“Instead of using a chip pan, go for a safer option and cook oven chips or use a thermostatically controlled chip pan.”
The chip safety campaign will be launched in Telford on Wednesday, February 22, from 10am to 4pm at Oceans Fish and Chips in Sutton Hill, and at Morrisons supermarket in Market Drayton on February 23 when the brigade's Outreach education vehicle will be attending with firefighters to give advice on fire safety.
A poster and information campaign by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is also being launched countywide.
"We will be asking takeaways, shops and pubs to display our “great night out – buy don’t fry" message to encourage people to stop off at the local chippy after a night out rather than cooking after consuming alcohol," added Tamara.
