Volunteers wanted for hospital-to-hospital fundraising walk

A team of determined staff from The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is issuing a plea for volunteers to join them in a fun hospital-to-hospital fundraising walk.

Volunteers wanted for hospital-to-hospital fundraising walk

The 14.6-mile walk, from the Princess Royal to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, is in aid of the new Cancer and Haematology Centre and is being organised by Nick Holding, one of the Trust’s improvement managers. It is scheduled to take place on Thursday 24 May.

A total of £3.2m has been raised by Lingen Davies to build the state-of-the-art facility at the RSH but now a new campaign has been launched to gather a further £300,000 for vital equipment and furnishings – and proceeds from the walk will go towards that goal.

“The centre is going to be terrific and the building is going up as we speak. Now we are raising funds to kit it out with all the equipment needed to treat our cancer patients,” said Mr Holding.

“The walk started out as something we were going to do within the improvement team, but now we are looking to make it much bigger.

“I am hoping we can have up to 100 people walking down the old A5 to Shrewsbury to raise funds for the appeal.

“I would ask anyone interested in taking part to get in touch. The bigger we can make this, the better. It’s for a fantastic cause and we would love to get the people of Shropshire behind us.

“Even if you don’t feel able to join in the whole walk, then we would still be delighted to welcome people for stages along the way – every little helps!”

For more information, or to make donations, contact Mr Holding via the Trust’s Improvement Team. He can be reached at the Princess Royal by calling 01952 641222 extension 4272 or at the Royal Shrewsbury by dialling 01743 261000 extension 2415. People can also email nick.holding@sath.nhs.uk
