A man is in hospital with serious injuries following a fight in Ellesmere during the early hours of yesterday morning.

Man left with serious injuries following fight in Ellesmere

At around 1.30am, a fight between two men broke out in Victoria Street, near to the junction with Trimpley Street.

One of the men - a 29-year-old - ended up on the ground having been hit repeatedly in the face.

While the 29-year-old remained on the ground unable to defend himself, another man then approached him and kicked him repeatedly in the head.

A police spokesman said:

"The 29-year-old victim was hit and kicked a number of times to the head while he lay on ground but then an unknown woman stepped in and attempted to stop the assault.

"At this point the two men who had been striking the victim left the scene on foot.

"An ambulance was immediately called for the victim and he was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Thankfully, although he remains in hospital, at this stage it does not appear that the victim's injuries are life threatening.

"Investigating officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident, especially anyone who may know the identity of the two men that attacked the victim.

"The first man is described as being white, as having dark hair and as wearing a light coloured top with dark horizontal stripes, while the second man is described as being of mixed race and as wearing dark clothing.

"Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact officers in CID in Shrewsbury on 0300 333 3000.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111."
