Telford couple rescued from blaze after being woken by fire alarm
A Telford couple were rescued by firefighters last night when a fire broke out at their home in Stirtchley.
The couple were alerted to the fire when they woke upon hearing a fire alarm sounding at their home on Buttercup Close at around midnight.
They tried to leave their house but were unable to do so because of smoke.
A fire service controller advised the couple to block gaps in the bedroom door with a duvet and stay close to the bedroom window at the front of the house where they could get fresh air and be easily rescued.
Firefighters used a ladder to rescue the couple who suffered from shock and smoke inhalation.
It’s thought a faulty dishwasher was the cause of the fire.
Firefighters from Telford, Wellington, Tweedale and two officers from Shrewsbury all attended the blaze.
