Council to consult on possible Telford school merger
Two Telford schools could be merged after the head of one of the schools resigned.

Telford & Wrekin Council is poised to consult key partners and stakeholders about the possible merger of Hollinswood Infant and Junior schools.
The council’s policy is to review school provision whenever a head teacher resigns or significant building issues emerge to see if education can be delivered in a more sustainable way.
The current head teacher of Hollinswood Infants has resigned with effect from the end of the summer term 2012.
Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet, which meets on May 31, is being asked to authorise formal consultation to take place with a view to a possible merger of the two schools.
A further report detailing the feedback to this consultation will be brought to cabinet on 26 July.
If, following the consultation, a decision is made to merge the two schools, the recommendation will be to close the infant school and extend the age range of the junior school to accommodate infant age pupils.
Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “Whenever a change like this occurs, it provides us with an opportunity to see whether we can deliver education at the affected schools in a better way.
“However, we will of course carry out a thorough consultation before taking any decisions about whether to merge the two schools and we will take all views into account before making a final decision at the cabinet meeting in July.”
