Telford property fires spark appeal for vigilance
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service are asking Telford residents to be vigilant after three recent property fires where on two occasions rubbish was set on fire and a third incident where a sofa was set alight.

The first incident occurred at an empty property in Southgate at 12:07am Saturday 12th May 2012 where rubbish at the front of the property was set alight and caused damage to the gas and electric box and facia of the building.
A second incident occurred at another empty property in Southgate, Sutton Hill at 3:42pm yesterday. Again rubbish was set on fire in the bin cupboard causing damage to the front of the building.
A third incident was reported at 1:36am this morning in Willowfield Woodside, the fire is still under investigation by West Mercia Police and Fire Investigators but it is believed that the fire was started deliberately when a sofa placed at the front of the property for collection was set on fire which has spread to the garage containing a caravan.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is asking landlords and residents to ensure that empty properties are secured with metal boarding and any rubbish removed. Whilst residents are asked to put out rubbish for collection as late as possible and not overnight, bins should be at least 6 metres away from properties.
Secure property with good locks and consider additional lighting. Be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Police on 101 or if anyone has information about these fires they can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Fly tipping can be reported to Telford and Wrekin Council on 01952 384 384. For fire safety advice call Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service on 01743 260 260.
