Search launched for missing 81-year-old Ellesmere man

Mr Michael Ashton - aged 81 - was reported missing by neighbours on Church Street in Ellesmere at 8pm last night, but there has actually been no contact with him since 7pm on Friday evening.

A police spokesman said:

"We are becoming very concerned about Mr Ashton as it has been reported that his behaviour has become increasingly erratic. He has wondered off previously and police have been involved in helping to find him before.

"Mr Ashton's car is on his drive so we believe he must be on foot and I would ask local people to call us immediately if they see an elderly man walking around in a confused or slightly distressed state.

"If anyone sees someone who they believe may be Mr Ashton please do approach him and then call the police if it does appear to be him.

"We are in regular contact with Mr Ashton's family and they are now extremely worried for his welfare. It is vitally important we find him and reunite him with his family as soon as we can.

"Mr Ashton is described as being white, around 6ft tall, with a slim build and as having a grey hair and beard.

"He is also described as wearing glasses and it's very likely he is wearing a blue jumper and cream trousers.

"Anyone who knows where Mr Ashton is, or who believes they may have seen him over the past couple of days, is asked to contact West Mercia Police as soon as possible on 101 or 0300 333 3000."
