Police conducting a murder inquiry in Shrewsbury this afternoon named the victim as 43-year-old Guy Benson Bebbington.

Police name Shrewsbury murder victim

Mr Bebbington, from Harlescott, Shrewsbury died in hospital on Friday after being discovered with head injuries earlier in the day on an old canal footpath.

He was found shortly before 1am lying on the old canal footpath between Ditherington Road and Telford Way.

Two men aged 21 and 18 and a teenage girl remain in custody after being arrested Friday night on suspicion of murder.

A third man, aged 40, arrested on Friday morning in connection with the incident, has been released on bail subject to further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson, the officer leading the investigation, this afternoon confirmed that the three suspects remain in custody for further questioning.

He also said several witnesses have come forward having seen Mr Bebbington in the Ditherington area on Saturday evening.

"We are grateful for the information they have provided but believe there may be other people who spotted him on Saturday night, who have yet to make contact.

"I urge them to call Shrewsbury police station on 101 as a matter of urgency. We are anxious to piece together Mr Bebbington's movements leading up to his death and it is vitally important people come forward if they have any information at all which might assist the investigation."
