An investigation is underway following a serious house fire in the Sutton Farm area of Shrewsbury.

Two homes damaged following Shrewsbury house fire

The fire in Tilstock Crescent occurred around 4.42pm yesterday afternoon, it was so severe it spread to a neighbouring property resulting in significant damage to both houses.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Shrewsbury, Wellington and Baschurch worked in difficult conditions to battle the blaze, at its height around 35 Firefighters were at the scene.

Crews used breathing apparatus, main jets and an aerial ladder platform to bring the flames under control.

Although both properties had working smoke detectors, residents were alerted to the fire by neighbours and evacuated prior to the arrival of the Fire Service.

Fire investigators are establishing the origin and cause of the fire.
