Council celebrates achievements children and young people in care
The achievements of children and young people in care have been celebrated at a special awards ceremony held in the Borough earlier this month.

More than 150 children and young people, who are either in care or have left care, from across Telford & Wrekin Council attended this year’s ceremony which was held at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place.
Children and young people were recognised in a range of categories including Personal Achievement, Being Involved, Making Changes, Thinking of Others, Recreation and Educational Achievement. There was also a Special Award for outstanding achievement and a “Best Shot” Award.
This year’s ceremony, called Hot Shots, was hosted by two young people in care.
They said: “We were very happy to be hosting Hotshots 2012 and have enjoyed developing our public speaking skills. We really enjoy getting our certificates and having such a fun atmosphere and celebrating our achievements.”
They introduced onto stage a range of guests including the Mayor of the Borough of Telford and Wrekin Councillor Kevin Guy, Councillor Paul Watling, the cabinet member for Children, Young People & Families, and Managing Director Richard Partington.
Those attending were entertained by an “Eco Fashion Show” presented and modelled by children and young people as well as some solo performances.
Councillor Paul Watling said: “This awards ceremony is a celebration of the success and achievements of children and young people who are either in the care of Telford & Wrekin Council or have recently left care.
“It is a time to acknowledge that, regardless of circumstances, these children and young people work hard, think of others, get involved and achieve great things.
“The Awards Ceremony is our opportunity to acknowledge this and to congratulate them. We have and continue to, in these difficult times for local government services, put the children and young people in greatest need at the centre of our priorities.”
This is the eleventh year that Telford & Wrekin Council has held a ceremony to celebrate the achievements of children and young people in care.
