Pirates takes to the water for Shrewsbury River Festival
Pirates will be taking to the River Severn today for the Shrewsbury River Festival.

The ‘Pirate Themed’ family-fun day will be taking place on the River Severn, and in Shrewsbury’s Quarry Park between 10am and 5pm this afternoon.
Families are being encouraged to attend the event in fancy dress; and there is a special Fancy Dress Competition for the Best Dressed Young Pirate – for children 12 years of age or under. Judging will take place between 1pm and 2pm in The Quarry, followed by a presentation of a Cup and Prizes at 2pm by The Mayor of Shrewsbury – Councillor Jon Tandy.
In the Quarry a variety of exhibitors, craft stands and catering stalls will be set up.
Graham Galliers, spokesman for Shrewsbury River Festival said: “We welcome people to come and enjoy a day of family fun – which is based on a ‘Pirates on the Severn’ theme and we are encouraging pirate fancy dress both on land and on the boats. With a ‘Comedy Juggling Show for all the family’ – featuring Captain Jack ‘Calico’ Rackham and Bosun ‘Ned Jones’, a Comic Sword Fight, and a Juggling Knives & Cannon Balls display, the River Festival promises a lot of fun!”
