Hundreds to enjoy Wem Carnival today

With a full program of entertainment, stalls and shows; Wem Carnival will again prove to be Wem’s biggest free one day event.

The daytime Carnival parade will begin at the Wem Sports and Social car park at 1.30pm, with the evening parade commencing from the same location at 7.45pm.

Starting at Wem’s Sports and Social car park, the parade will head along Pyms Road towards New Street. The parade will then cross over New Street moving along Summerfield Road adjoining Station Road, past Wem’s Recreational grounds, moving along Aston road through to the Wem High Street, to return to the Sports and Social car park via Lowe Hill Road and the top end of Pyms Road.

Both parades will include floats, marching bands, fancy dress and dancers all taking to the streets.

The fun continues on the Carnival Field (next to the Sports & Social club/swimming pool). Admission is by donation.

This year’s Carnival Queen is Taylor Evans aged 12 from Wem. The Carnival Princess is Jade Hunt who is also 12 years old with attendants Louise Hinks and Amella Harrison both aged 8 years.

Motorists are being advised that roads in Wem will be closed 30 minutes before the start of both the day and evening parades. Roads will re-open soon after the parade has cleared.
