A woman has died at home two hours after being involved in a collision near Claverley.

The woman was the driver of a black Alfa Romeo Giulietta which overturned on an unnamed road in Broughton, near Claverley at around 8.05am yesterday.

The collision is believed to have happened after the woman – who was in her 30s – overtook a cyclist, travelling towards Halfpenny Green Airport.

Police officers attended the scene, along with the fire service who righted the car and paramedics who assessed the woman. The woman chose not to go to hospital.

PC Tim Lever from Shrewsbury police station said: “The woman appeared relatively uninjured and was collected from the scene by her partner. However sadly, just two hours later, the ambulance service was called to their home address following reports that she had died.

“Our thoughts go out to the woman’s family and we have assigned a family liaison officer to help them at this difficult time.

“While the cause of death is not currently known, due to the short amount of time between the crash and her passing away, we are investigating this as if it were a fatal collision.

“This means that we are appealing for anyone who either witnessed the crash, or saw the Alfa Romeo and the cyclist travelling along the road before it happened, to call us on 101 quoting reference number 214S 271113.”

The coroner for Shropshire has been informed of the woman’s death and a post-mortem will be carried out in due course.

The cyclist was not injured.
