An investigation into a house fire on Boulton Grange in Randlay has revealed that it was started deliberately.

Investigation into Telford house fire reveals it was started deliberately

Police were alerted to the incident at 1.30am yesterday by the fire service, who were already on the scene.

Investigative work by police and the fire service over the past 24 hours suggests that someone had broken into the property – by smashing a window at the back - prior to the fire and that paper was then set alight inside the house.

A police spokesman said: “The initial results of the investigation are clearly very worrying. Thankfully no-one was harmed as a result of this fire but the end result could have been very different.

“We are very keen to speak to anyone who believes they may have any information that could be linked to this fire, or anyone who believes they may be able to help us understand why this property was targeted.

“Anyone with information that could aid our investigation is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 0021S 120514.

“Altrenatively, please remember Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you’d rather leave information without identifying yourself.”
