Police are seeking three men who broke into the home of an elderly Market Drayton woman stealing her pension and savings.

Three men steal savings from elderly Market Drayton woman

The woman, who is in her nineties, returned to her home in Smithfield Road shortly after 5pm last night to find the intruders in her living room.

They fled with a purse containing her money. An untidy search had been made of the property suggesting the men may have been inside for some time.

Officers have carried out house to house inquiries in the immediate area and today appealed for witnesses who may have spotted the men in the area, either before or after the burglary.

Detective Inspector Mark Bellamy said: “This was a shocking experience for the elderly resident. She is very upset but fortunately was not hurt.

“They targeted an elderly and vulnerable person, stealing money and causing considerable distress.

“We are anxious to hear from anyone who may have seen these three men who were wearing hoodies. They might have been in the Smithfield Road earlier in the day before being disturbed by the occupant returning home just after 5pm. Contact Market Drayton or Shrewsbury police stations on 101 and quote the reference 0474-s-290514”.
