He added: "The Post Office is vital to the community in Craven Arms and I'm sure that the new modernised branch, with longer opening hours, will be welcomed by local residents."
As part of Post Office plans to modernise the network and extend opening hours for customers, the new modernised Craven Arms Post Office at Spar Stores, has three serving positions, a mixture of a modern screened position, a new style open plan position and a Post Office service point at the retail counter, where many Post Office transactions can be made during shop opening hours.
Customers also benefit from extended opening hours. The branch itself is open from 09.00 to 17.30 Monday to Saturday, while the Post Office serving point will be open from 07.00-22.00 Monday to Saturday and 08:00-21:00 on Sundays. This is an extra 57 hours per week, including later opening on Saturday and Sunday opening.
Post Office agent Elle Shoker who runs the branch said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to open the new branch. I am very pleased to be officially launching it for the community. I hope our customers like their modernised Post Office and I’d like to thank Philip Dunne for taking time from his busy schedule to come here. I’d also like to thank the local community for their continued support and use of the branch.”
Richard Lynds, Post Office Senior Stakeholder Manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Craven Arms and we would like to thank Ella Shoker for agreeing to run the branch when previous the subpostmistress expressed an interest in leaving. I am confident this new modern Post Office will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future. The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
