Man arrested on suspicion of threatening to kill in Wellington

At approximately 7.40pm police officers were called to Regent Street to reports that a man and a woman had had a weapon pointed at them by a man in a red vehicle.

Following the incident a 42-year-old man attended the police station and was arrested as part of the investigation. He has since been bailed to return to the police station on August 15.

Detective Sergeant Dayfdd Jones said: “We’re aware that local rumours and gossip are suggesting that this incident is related to terrorism. There is no evidence or intelligence to suggest that this is the case and it currently appears to be an isolated incident between individuals that are known to each other.”
