Great Shropshire Bake Off draws large crowds
Over 700 people enjoyed a day in the sunshine at Brompton Cookery School near Shrewsbury on Sunday for the Great Shropshire Bake Off.
The event, now in its second year, was organised by Shropshire Rural Community Council and attracted entrants from across the county.
Several classes for all ages were held where people could come along with cakes made at home and then enter them in competition, most of which were then sold to raise money for the RCC’s Carers Appeal.
Host chef Marcus Bean commented on the high standard of entries in the main competition final section, where people had to bring their own ingredients and then create a ‘show piece’ cake in the school kitchens on the morning.
Winner and Great Shropshire Bake Off Champion 2014 was Laura Hopley, of Leegomery, Telford, with Emily Moorhouse, of Donnington, Telford, in second place and Bradley Lloyd, from Heath Farm, Shrewsbury, taking third spot, with prizes being presented by celebrity guest judge Matt Evers of Dancing on Ice television fame.
RCC community fundraiser Elodie Home commented: “The turnout for this year’s Bake Off has surpassed all our expectations and the effort put in by volunteers to organise and host the event has been simply fantastic.
“The setting here at Brompton Cookery School is perfect and with all the entertainment provided we believe it has been a fabulous family day out, while at the same time raising valuable funds for our Carers Appeal.”
