Work starts on new housing and social club in Oakengates
A new development of homes which will benefit the local community has got underway in Oakengates.

The Wrekin Housing Trust and Central & Country Construction Ltd have started work on 38 new homes at Church Lane, Oakengates, which will also pave the way for refurbishments to the local sports and social club.
The land that the new homes is being built on was sold to the Trust by Maddocks Sports and Social Club and the money they have received will be used to provide a new roof, heating and wiring, as well as a general spruce up of the popular community and bowling club.
As well as this, the local community will benefit from new affordable housing for rent, with a mixture of two and three bedroom family homes being built by Central & Country for The Wrekin Housing Trust.
The new homes are being funded by the Trust along with the Homes & Communities Agency and work has now started on the site, with completion expected in early 2016.
As well as providing a boost to this community asset and providing new homes, the construction of the site will provide over £12 million worth of value to the local economy as well as generating 87 jobs. Four or more apprentices will be working on site during the construction period, receiving valuable training.
Steve Swann, Development Manager for The Wrekin Housing Trust, said: “This is a large development that will provide quality, affordable new houses for the area and it’s great to see work starting on the new homes. It’s good to be working with the club so that they can afford to do their improvements too as this will benefit the local community and new residents even further.”
