Man suffers serious head injury in Telford collision

A green Vauxhall Astra was travelling along Stafford Park 4 and approaching the nearside junction for Stafford Park 10, when it was in collision with the heavy goods vehicle which was stationary at the junction.

The incident occurred shortly after 7.35pm.

The driver of the car, a man in his late 30s, had suffered a significant serious head injury in the collision and was quickly treated by medics. He was released from his vehicle by firefighters using specialist equipment.

The man was immobilised with the use of a neck collar and spinal board before being anaesthetised due to the serious nature of his condition.

He was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The driver of the heavy good vehicle, a 49-year-old man, was uninjured.

The road was closed after the collision and reopened at around 11pm.

Police are eager to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or the circumstances leading up to it. Information can be given to police by calling 101 quoting incident 564S of Tuesday 24 February.
