Rain fails to dampen Shrewsbury Carnival's holiday themed parade

Thousands of people enjoyed holiday themed fun at Shrewsbury Carnival and Show today, despite the rain.
Crowds braved the showers and lined town centre streets for the main parade, whilst in the Quarry a full line-up of entertainment and activities proved popular amongst visitors and those taking part.
The parade was delayed for a time whilst a diesel spillage from the tank of a lorry was dealt with. The incident was handled by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and Shropshire Council.
Shrewsbury Carnival Chairman, Graham Meredith said: “Despite the showers we certainly had a great day of entertainment, this year we saw a very high standard of floats and walking groups entering the parade. Our Holiday theme certainly proved popular even if we didn't have holiday weather for the day.
"We thank everyone for their patience whilst the fuel spillage was dealt with. The incident was reported and we continued with the procession. Shropshire Council kept the road shut for longer than our 3.30pm closure, but this was taken out of our hands and not a decision taken by us."
Mayor of Shrewsbury, Cllr Miles Kenny said: “Behind all the fun comes hours of work from a small band of volunteers working tirelessly throughout the year to put the Carnival together. So it’s a big thank you from me to the organisers for a great day.”
Local community groups and charities will soon be able to apply for a slice of the donations collected during the parade. Information on how to apply are available at www.shrewsburycarnival.co.uk.
Next year's event takes place on Saturday 18 June and will have the theme Shrewsbury Carnival Goes to the Movies.
