Ludlow housing scheme wins £2000 in national competition
Residents of Whitefriars, a sheltered housing scheme in Ludlow, have come third in a national procurement competition, scooping a prize of £2000 in the process.

The money will be used to transform under-used green space into community gardens.
Run by Procurement For Housing (PFH) and sponsored by B&Q, the competition asked social landlords to submit projects for their residents and communities. And while Shropshire Housing Group put in the entry, the housing provider thinks credit needs to go to the residents themselves for their input and ideas.
Ann Sutcliffe, Executive Director, Neighbourhoods from Shropshire Housing Group said: “Obviously we are delighted to have come third in this prestigious national competition. Thanks must go to residents, Julie Fowler, the Housing Support Officer and Partners for their ideas and enthusiasm. The prize will directly benefit our tenants and create a really great garden for them.”
More than 60 entries were assessed by a panel of judges using criteria that scored on impact, value for money and return on investment. The 27 finalists were invited to attend an awards ceremony where Whitefriars scooped the third prize.
The whole community will help to deliver the project with support from “Ludlow Hands Together” a local voluntary group and local scout and guide groups who will help with planting and maintenance of the flower beds.
Paul Docherty, B&Q Business Services Sales Manager and part of the judging panel, said: “We had an impressive array of projects to choose from and that made picking three winners extremely difficult.
“Supporting projects that have such a tangible social impact is an important part of the way we work with customers. Through our alliance with PfH we have built up strong relationships with social housing organisations over many years. “These awards are a chance to not only celebrate the work of the winners but the achievements seen throughout the sector.”
