Public feedback to be sought on plans for new £7m Telford footbridge

Telford & Wrekin Council is set to carry out public engagement sessions to get feedback on designs for a unique and iconic footbridge linking the Town Centre with Telford Central Railway Station.

The new bridge – likely to cost around £7m will cross over the Birmingham-Shrewsbury railway line, the A442 and Rampart Way, which will be a dual carriageway by the time the bridge is installed.

It will be more accessible for disabled people than the current bridge because it will not be as steep.

The replacement of the bridge will support the regeneration of Telford Central station and provide a new attractive gateway to the borough.

The public engagement sessions will take place:

- Wednesday 22 June: 3-7pm at Telford Central railway station
- Thursday 23 June: 1-4pm at Southwater One
+ Tuesday 28 June: 8-11am at Telford Central railway station

During the sessions plans and photos of the current design will be on show along with a 3D video fly-through of the proposed bridge.

The work to upgrade the Town Centre’s transport infrastructure, which started with the Box Road being made two way, will also include Rampart Way and Hall Park Way becoming dual carriageways.

The multi-million pound project to renew key infrastructure is funded by the Department for Transport.

The footbridge links the existing footpath cycleway networks either side of the A442 dual carriageway and provides the footbridge link between platforms at the station.

Residents can also view the plans and provide feedback online at http://www.telford.gov.uk/connectivitypackage from 22 June onwards.

Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Transport, said: “The public engagement sessions are an opportunity for people to get a first view of the planned footbridge design and give us their feedback.

“We have worked hard to successfully secure the funding for this major project from the Department for Transport and our aim is to provide an attractive gateway to Telford, which is an iconic landmark and unique to the town.”
