Car and motorcyclist collide on A49 at Marshbrook

A motorcyclist and car collided on the A49 south of Church Stretton at Marshbrook this morning.

The collision happened at just before 9am.

The motorbike was travelling southbound towards Craven Arms when, for reasons, yet to be established, it crossed onto the northbound carriageway and collided with a car.

The rider of the motorbike, a man in his 50s and the driver of the car, a woman in her 70s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries

The A49 was closed to traffic following the collision with emergency services working at the scene.

An air ambulance, West Midlands Ambulance Service and two fire appliances including the rescue tender were mobilised from Church Stretton, Craven Arms and Wellington.

West Mercia Police advised motorists to avoid the area.

Enquiries are on-going and police are appealing for witnesses, including any motorists who were in the area and have dash cam footage. Anyone with information is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting reference 240s 040819.
