Shrewsbury residents warned of postal delays
Royal Mail has issued a warning to residents across Shrewsbury and its surrounding villages, as the local delivery office struggles with a mounting backlog caused by extreme weather and a spike in staff sickness.

The disruption is specifically impacting the SY1, SY2, SY3, SY4, and SY5 postcode areas. Shrewsbury is among 38 delivery offices nationwide currently listed by the postal giant as being "most affected" by delays.
The service breakdown follows a turbulent start to the year. A spokesperson for Royal Mail confirmed that the hangover from Storms Goretti, Ingrid, and Chandra in January - combined with higher-than-usual levels of sick absence - has left some local routes without regular deliveries.
"We want to reassure customers that the vast majority of mail is delivered as planned and understand how frustrating it is when post does not arrive as expected," a Royal Mail spokesperson said.
Despite these reassurances, many in the SY postcode areas have reported receiving mail only once or twice a week, raising concerns over time-sensitive medical appointments and legal documents.
For now, Royal Mail says it is "rotating" deliveries in the SY1 to SY5 areas to ensure that no single household is left without mail for an extended period.
Residents in Telford, Newport, Shifnal and Albrighton have previously reported delays in receiving post, with many hospital and other important appointments being missed as a result.
