Adults across Telford and Wrekin are being encouraged to build confidence in the water as Telford & Wrekin Council Leisure launches a new programme of Adult Swim4Life swimming lessons at leisure centres across the Borough.

Adults encouraged to dive in as new Swim4Life lessons launch across Telford and Wrekin

The Adult Swim4Life programme is designed specifically for adults of all abilities, including complete beginners and those who may feel nervous or out of practice. The lessons support learners to progress through Swim England’s nationally recognised Learn to Swim programme, helping them develop confidence, skills and water safety at their own pace.

The programme begins with a dedicated stage for those new to swimming or lacking confidence, before offering clear progression through further stages as ability grows. Lessons take place in a relaxed and supportive environment, with small class sizes to ensure individual attention.

Each session lasts 60 minutes and runs at a range of days and times, making it easier for adults to fit lessons around work and family life.

Councillor Angela McClements, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism, Culture and the Arts, said:

“Many adults feel that learning to swim is something they’ve missed out on, but it’s never too late to start. Adult Swim4Life gives people the confidence, support and encouragement they need to feel comfortable in the water.

Swimming is an important life skill and also a fantastic way to improve both physical and mental wellbeing, offering a low‑impact, full‑body workout that’s accessible to everyone.”

Adult Swim4Life lessons will run at:

- Oakengates Leisure Centre – Saturdays, 6.15pm–7.15pm

- Newport Swimming and Fitness Centre – Wednesdays, 8pm–9pm

- Abraham Darby Sports and Leisure Centre – Fridays, 6.30pm–7.30pm

Adults who sign up and pay by direct debit also receive free access to public swimming sessions at any Telford & Wrekin Council leisure pool, giving them additional opportunities to practise and build confidence.

More information and booking details are available online.
